Rodrigo y Gabriela Make A Welcome Return

‘Gobsmackingly proficient and inventive…’ – Time Out (London)

‘Both Metallica and Dave Brubeck will find echoes of their work in this slick and utterly unexpected set’ – The Guardian

‘An outstanding piece of work by outstanding musicians.’ – Classic Rock Society

‘This is your chance to hear what everyone is talking about.’ – HMV Choice.

‘It shows just what can be achieved with a pair of acoustic guitars when they are put in the hands of people who are prepared to push the limits’ – Guitarist September 2004

Following appearances at V2004 and T in the Park, Mexico's finest exports, Rodrigo y Gabriela make a triumphant return to Britain with a brand new album and 23 date tour.

Titled 'Rodrigo y Gabriela – Live Manchester and Dublin', the album combines live performances from both cities and features four brand new compositions from the duo.

Among the mix are covers of the jazz classic 'Take 5' interwoven with Metallica's 'One' delivered the R&G way. The Dublin-based duo blend Latin flavours with every genre from funk to flamenco and a touch of salsa mixed with Metallica to produce the most exquisite and dramatic sound!

The new release was recorded in Dublin’s Christ Church Cathedral and the Manchester Academy over the last 5 months. October sill see the return of Rodrigo y Gabriela to Manchester, only
this time, for an intimate headline show at Academy.

Ireland has been the couple's home away from home for the last five years since they moved
from Mexico where they were part of the country’s rock fraternity, serving up a mash of
metal and rock. With a deal on the table and fame on the game plan, Rodrigo and Gabriela
simply bailed out at the last moment and set sail for Europe where no one – least of all
Rodrigo y Gabriela – was prepared for what was to happen next.

Busking on the streets of Dublin's city centre they soon started to make a name for themselves
on the Irish live scene, easily winning audiences over with their virtuoso guitar playing. Two
albums Foc and Re-Foc followed, with the help of critically acclaimed singer Damien Rice,
and both were received with critical acclaim. Theirs is a sound that keeps metal fans satisfied
while also drawing new ears to their intricate Latin rhythms.

“I think it sounds well together because we make it sound like one ' says Gabriela. 'We have different techniques” adds Rodrigo, 'So I don't do the things she does – I don't even try to”

Sell out shows and contributions to movie soundtracks (including The Soprano’s, which featured Paris from the album Refoc) have all helped build a solid following in Ireland and the UK. Earlier this year Rodrigo y Gabriela supported Will Young at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester on his national tour and they have just played a series of headline dates throughout Ireland where the album is currently number 11.

When Rodrigo was asked, after the Late Room show in July, why he like to play Manchester, he replied – And why do they like playing in Manchester? “Because the vibe is f*****g great.” The show on the 22nd October promises to be a good one!
