Misty's Big Adventure – Sunday!

A mix of jazz, psychedelia, two-tone, punk, pop and electronica, and every bit as weird looking as they sound, Misty’s Big Adventure are among the most amazing and bizarre new bands currently “out-there”. The brainchild of frontman Grandmaster Gareth, the Birmingham eight piece have created quite a stir since the release of debut EP ‘Cool with a capital C’ on Awkward Records in 2003. A deal with SL Records followed and debut album ‘Misty’s Big Adventure and their Place in the Solar Hi-Fi System’ was released last September, grabbing the interest of fellow sonic adventurers The Zutons, who got the band to support them on their UK tour.

Refreshingly prolific, the band toured with 50ft Wave before releasing third single ‘Hey Man’ at the start of May, which was controversially banned by the BBC due to b-side ‘EVIL’s political lyrics on the eve of the election. Second album ‘The Black Hole’, due to be released a mere ten months after their debut on July 4th, follows this string of headline dates in the UK. Produced by Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, Beth Orton), the album is both an expandment and a refinement of Misty’s sound: more epic, more pop, more depth. With a live show described as something 1920s Berlin Cabaret would be proud of and led by dancing monster/beatboxer/loony Erotic Volvo, dressed head to toe in red costume with blue inflated rubber gloves, Misty’s Big Adventure are a sight and sound to savour, putting many of the so-called ‘musical revolutionaries’ in the shade.
