Story Of The Year – The Black Swan

More generic ‘emo’ nonsense in the vain of Sum 41 and Finch. Repetitive, boring and dull; sorry to say it but heard it all a million times before. This track is so predictable its scary, really does make me wonder how many more of these Americanized skater punk bands can break into the mainstream before people actually ‘wake up’ and realise how pointless it is. I’m sure it’ll appeal to many, to those that it does though- I urge you to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror and question the integrity of such a band.

The song itself addresses the listener to ‘wake up’ and realise how short life is, a sort of ‘carpe diem’ message, and appeal that life is rife with ignorance and how ‘you don’t know what you’ve got til its gone away’. Maybe the band should listen a bit harder to their own lyrics and realise that what they themselves are doing is a waste of their own time.
