Emma-Lee – Never Just A Dream

Tugging at heartstrings in a meloncholic melodious fashion. Emma-Lee injects some pazzazz into this swinging easy lounge jazz sound. The inspiration of jazz legends is very evident throughout which adds to the charm of her passion for the music. Songs on the album include the instantabley fitting ‘That Sinking Feeling’ and the title track ‘Never Just a dream.’ The more sombre latter of the two is highlight of how well she writes and orchestrates material.

Her vocal work might be what is holding some of the potential back slightly in only that it sounds like such a young voice. The material needs experience behind it in order to support the content of the mood and lyrics. It isnt that she isn’t practicesd as you can clearly hear that she is trying very hard to take her voice from many of the highs and lows. She can clearly hold the long chords – but it is still evidently a young voice singing. This of course in time will mature and catch up with the material she is writing which is way head of her time.

The majority of the album is a contemplative mellow effort, but that isnt to say that it isnt full of sass.
