Los Campesinos! – We Are Beautiful We Are Doomed

Indie pop seven-piece Los Campesinos! return with a new long player just five months after the release of their debut. Intending to only record an EP the band ended up so happy with the 10 songs they recorded they wanted to release them immediately.

Listening to these energetic, perfect pop songs it’s understandable that the band couldn’t wait to release them. It is a shame we’ve not had a long hot summer as this is a perfect collection of songs to accompany those hazey summer days.

Stand out tracks include ‘Miserabilia’, ‘Between An Erupting Earth And An Exploding Sky’-which starts with 10 seconds of beautiful dark intstrumental, that’s really quite impressive and a nice surprise from a normally upbeat band. ‘We Are beautiful, We Are Doomed’ contains the lyrics ‘I taught myself the only way to vaguely get along in love is to like the other slightly less than you get in return…’ cynical yes or maybe the words of someone who’s been burnt too many times, but most definitely sensible.

Los Campesinos are proving that not only are they musically skilled but their lyrics and use of words are quite poetic yet manage to bring some humour into the mix. This is definitely a must by album.
