Silverfall – Movies

These ever so pleasant folk rockers are fronted by singer and songwriter Jenny Bailey, and it is her delicate yet powerful voice that really grabs you upon first listen to this, their new single.

While its radio-friendly college rock style wouldn’t render it out of place on a Dawson’s Creek soundtrack, Movies nevertheless allows Bailey to demonstrate her considerable vocal talents. The abilities of this singer/songwriter have drawn comparisons with the legendary Stevie Nicks and have led to her band being compared to Irish alt-rockers The Cranberries.

Movies has a poignant and at times bittersweet message; its heartfelt refrain of “it’s not like in the movies” demonstrating the profound honesty and emotion found in the band’s song writing. The bright and breezy musical accompaniment compliments the sincere lyrics perfectly, and between them they combine to ensure the track never lunges too far into the realm of saccharine Coors-esque fare.

The B-side to this single is a beautiful cover of dance classic ‘Your Loving Arms’ which sees the songstress going solo with only an acoustic guitar for company. An unexpected treat which could well be superior to the single itself.
Silverfall are no doubt destined for bigger things and are certain to be a big hit with the 40+ age bracket. Safe and effortlessly enjoyable, their sound may not be especially unique, but they are given a cutting edge thanks to Bailey’s undeniable talents.
