Alphabeat – What Is Happening

The new darlings of cheesy pop’s latest offering and fifth, yes fifth release from debut album ‘This Is Alphabeat’ is the perfect example of the kind of irresistible or annoying as hell dose of pop mania that has made these upbeat Scandinavians so likeable or grating. Depending on which side of the coin your views lie ‘Alphabeat’ will either be the guiltiest pleasure you’ve ever had –the crack cocaine of pop music, or a migraine provoking mess that will make you want to stick pins in your eyes.

If one thing and one thing only; ‘Alphabeat’ certainly create mixed and divided opinions. Yes, the over the top and in-your-face 80’s glam-pop may not be to everyone’s taste and they can certainly often overdo it a little on the bright and bubbly front. But personally I’m all for a good bit joyous 80’s pop, and when it’s this seductive who cares how un-cool it is. ‘What Is Happening’ is easily their best and catchiest single to date, and one that will no doubt see ‘Alphabeat’ continue on their steady rise to pop stardom.
