Leeds 2009 – Day 1 – Bramham Park, Leeds

So I get here after the sun sets and the wind blowing a gale. Never listen to a Welshman who reckons he can put up a tent in the dark. He can’t. Finally, the formalities of camping are over and we meander into the main arena to be greeted by the sounds of Arctic Monkeys and the sight of an absolutely packed main stage. By far the busiest I have ever witnessed this festivals main stage to be; although am not sure this is a testament to the Yorkshire masses supporting their own or an increase in festival capacity.

We do a quick loop around the arena re-acquainting ourselves with the geography of the place, and find Rise Against playing to a crammed tent of teen haircuts, all self consciously checking each other out. The music is secondary it seems.

Anyway, it is now day two. The wind has gone down, the sun has come up and we stole an extra cup of tea from the café whilst struggling over a hangover to the dulcet tones of Thom Yorke sound checking on the main stage. The highlight of the weekend is due today and I hear Radiohead will be playing ‘Creep’. Amazing..
