Paloma Faith – New York

Paloma Faith’s last single, “Stone Cold Sober” grabbed the attention of the media as it was, well, a bit manic. Even still it was good and definitely suggested an interesting addition to the music industry.

Her next single, “New York” confirms this. She is starting to show there is more to her than just drama with a dreamy song of a girl who looses her love to the city of New York. Definitely a different take on the lost love theme, and makes her forthcoming album, “Do You Want The Truth or Something Beautiful” that little bit more anticipated.

The track itself is a definite contrast to her last single. Starting and finishing in a childlike quality with a musicbox melody it suggests an innocence to the singer, and the background singers singing “New York” are meant to add to it but instead come off sounding like Muppets. Despite that, the track has a wonderful atmospheric feel to it using strings, and it builds to a wonderful climax complete with a gospel choir.

This is a great track, it’s a bit different but that in itself is something that’s hard to achieve nowadays. Hopefully Paloma will have more surprises in store for us yet.
