The Twilight Saga: New Moon – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

For the record, The Twilight Saga makes me physically sick, the idea of handsome vampires seducing unsuspecting college kids to the soundtrack of largely emo/indie music reduces me to a cynical, hurt and suicidal man.

This sense of disgust may well have left a lingering smell of fake blood at the back of my mind, but my review of the soundtrack was purely impartial, leaving any hatred that I had of R-Patz and his delicious face at the back of my mind.

But however hard I tried, the soundtrack seemed as pointless as the story. The problem with this collection is that it seemed almost every artist has had the same idea; make a quasi-gothic ballad exploring youth and the nighttime with daunting piano and prophetic strings. And though these artists succeeded, the outcome became a repetitive and rhetorical clunk of an album.

Consequently, the record only really surfaces to be a platform for these artists (Thom Yorke, The Killers, OkGo!) to sell more records to the under 19 and pale teenager. Death Cab For Cutie and Lykke Li put in impressive performances, Death Cab.. offering up a slice of drive-in romance sprinkled with an ambitious sense of desperation and Li surfacing with an adorable vocal and a genuine sense of atmosphere but unfortunately it is not enough to sway me.

It seems I will not be joining Team Edward, Team Twilight or Team Soundtrack any time soon!
