Kin – dot dot dot

Art Rock Lady is how Kin is described on her press release. And listening to the forced jittery voice at the beginning of this EP it becomes evident just how far she is willing to go to be art. Singing? Or is someone really doing the Belinda Carlisle and hitting her chest as she tries to sing.

It makes an impression in the opening number Something Stupid, but it’s also frustrating to never heard her finish a sentence without jittering her voice about. And as there is something beautiful beneath this condition it is a real shame not to be able to hear it.

Sadly this continues throughout the EP right through to the end. It’s a one trick pony show for the vocals then and should have been dropped after one song, but obviously this is Kin’s sound and it is up to the public and the Arty groups out there to decide if they want to take to it or not.

The plus side is that the music is very moody and beautifully put together especially in the eerie yet soothing “Hibiscus” at the end which thankfully is vocals-lite.
