Katatonia – Night Is The New Day

They have been around for the better part of 20 years, and hailing from Sweden it is surprising how tame the rock is. But not ever European metal band has to have a singer throwing up over a microphone, so we discover here.

Despite the deliberate mis-spelling in their name which many a metal band is accustomed to, Katatonia mange to be fairly serene in their approach for this new album.

Idle Blood for example is probably as pretty as metal will ever get. A swaying orchestral and acoustic effort at that. Whilst there is easilly the intonation of aged rock in the music, it’s all still quite pretty for the effects they arrange in their compositions.

Katatonia are probably a band that are very misconcieved by the unknowning. Perhaps time to give them a chance as you’d be surprised what you find.
