Ellie Goulding – Liverpool Guild of Students

Perhaps the toilets were one of the best places to assess the overall crowd at tonight’s show. Strange place you ask? Let me explain. Whilst the male toilets were practically empty, the female ones were filled with what you could describe as Ellie Goulding or Pixie Lott lookalikes. The atmosphere tonight is most definitely a predominantly female one.

First to start off the night to an almost half packed room were Bright Light Bright Light. It’s as if Depeche Mode had joined forces with George Michael and created electronic music that had an air of 80/90’s electro pop. It was all very glamorous and charismatic.

Second on the stage was Sunday Girl aka Jade Williams. She provided uplifting electronic pop and her stage presence floated through the crowd just like her smooth voice.

The lights were dimmed as the hypnotic neon backdrop lit up with “Ellie Goulding.” A frantic hysteria emerged from the crowd as a remixed intro of “Under the Sheets” was played just before Ellie Goulding appeared as if from nowhere. Miss Goulding threw herself at the drums frantically during her set. Her voice displayed frailties (in a good way) which contrasted nicely with her powerful voice. It was like she was in a trance like frenzy. Ellie bonded with her crowd in a particular innovative way as a video detailing her rise was shown to the crowd. She came back on saying ‘That was all for you. You’re my best friends and without you I wouldn’t be here.” Following the mood, Ellie performed a set of acoustic tracks which included “The End” and a cover of The Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition.” It was all very touching and emotional although it did go on for a little too long. Finishing off with “Starry Eyed” Ellie left the stage with her name literally up in lights. It’s safe to say that it will remain that way for some time.
