Sugarplum Fairies – The Images We Get

Sugarplum Fairies are a group from Vienna, Italy who employ elements of indie, folk and electronica to achieve their niche; and what a niche.

Instantly drawing comparisons with The XX, Velvet Underground and John Lennon, Sugarplum Fairies are in good company. Dubbed ‘dream pop’, the band do experiment with genre throughout The Images We Get, and deserve our admiration for their efforts.

Although not their fist album by any means, The Images We Get might just be the first not to go under the radar, as it were; especially in the UK. Relatively unknown on our shores, this release could see the group gain some much-deserved new audience-members.

Songs such as “Waves” and “Jump The Gun” are excellent, strong, hazy tracks with prominent vocals; indeed, the vocals throughout the album are excellent.

“Plastic Sky” is a folk-lover’s classic, and slots in excellently amongst Sugarplum Fairies’ esoteric blend of electronica. Highly recommended.
