Bravestation – Western Thrills

With just a couple of weeks to go now until the release of their debut full-length ‘Giants & Dreamers’, Toronto’s Bravestation have unveiled the video for the album’s third single ‘Western Thrills’.

The children in the video are believed to be the adopted sons and daughters of a philosophic artisan, who predicted the degradation of what was commonly misconceived to be a ‘modern civilization’. His prophetic words fell upon deaf ears – ultimately leading to him being exiled by his own people onto a remote island with dense forests somewhere off the Western Shores.

The young tribe must protect themselves and their island from external threats that come in the form of an aging generation of hunters and gatherers who threaten to ruin what is most sacred to them: their land, life and way of thinking.

Youth, and its preservation in particular, is a topic that permeates through much of ‘Giants & Dreamers – an effort that has seen Bravestation dive even deeper into their realm of sonic exploration and imagination.

The song-writing and recording process for the new album began over a year and a half ago, with each member capturing ideas in isolation on their home computers; the resulting demos shared in a communal space for collective sculpting. The aforementioned UK tour provided a great opportunity to road test the new material in front of a new audience; before returning to Toronto to finish the album in basements, bedrooms and Canterbury Studio. This constantly shifting discourse led to the revisiting and reshaping of ideas over time which contributed to the new material's unique complexity – adventurous artistry, filled with visions of fantasy and a future that struggles between dystopia and utopia.
