Robbie Williams And Mick Jones Team Up For Hillsborough Christmas Single

Robbie Williams and Mick Jones of legendary UK punks The Clash are set to release a cover of The Hollies’ ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ for charity this Christmas, challenging the X Factor and raising money for the Hillsborough charity in the process.

The track will also feature an all-star line up of cameo appearances with Mick Jones and Williams joined by Dave McCabe of The Zutons, Paul Heaton, Rebecca Ferguson, Paloma Faith and Beverly Knight.

Released on December 17th, the single is expected to rival this year’s ‘X Factor’ winner for the Official UK Singles Chart Number One this Christmas. All money raised by the single will go toward paying the legal fees of the families who have battled to clear the name of Liverpool fans following Hillsborough.

Songwriter Guy Chambers has produced the charity single and spoke about his hope that Sir Paul McCartney may get involved with the track at some point down the line. “I am deeply honoured to be asked to produce this record for the 96,” Chambers told BBC News. “If we can help to raise money to support the families’ legal battle so that they finally get their time in court then our job will be done.”

He added: “I’m very happy with the artists we have already, but obviously I know Sir Paul McCartney was mentioned, so if he did join our happy little band of talent then that would be amazing.”
