A Quick Chat With: DaDa

London based psychedelic rock trio DaDa are set to release their debut single, “Black Horse” today via Black Wire Music. With a similar past, musical taste and previously knowing each other from different bands, we caught up with the trio, composed of James Schiavone (main Vox, guitars, synths), Manuel Crisci (bass) and Ryhan Lovell (drums) to find out more:

When we first started playing music…

We really wanted to release all of our frustrations. So we did it together!

If we had to choose a new name for the band it would be…because…

Mmm, this is a bit of a difficult one.. it’s never easy to choose a name. We haven’t really thought of any other options to be fair. DaDa seems to resemble perfectly what we are. DaDa means nothing…on the spot we say The Armpits and the Ultimate Truth. Or: Adam Rat and the Kiddy Fiddlers probably a better alternative!

We knew we were on to something when…

We realized we were onto something when we saw we were enjoying it. The more we would work and rehearse the more we would enjoy it. Our forthcoming EP “The Pigeon Conspiracy” is an introspection of feelings and emotions that we feel the contemporary/modern individual shares. These feelings mature in the routine of what we call life that seems to forsake good, love and freedom more and more.

DaDa is born from the ashes of this decadent society and ‘The Pigeon Conspiracy’ wants to highlight these paradoxes and inner conflicts that we experience. (Alex and Fran) Black Wire Music have always pushed us since they liked what we were doing ultimately giving a huge contribution to the making of this EP. I think the turning moment was doing the guitar sounds. We wanted them to be big and yes they are! Then everything kept on falling into the right place from there. However we have a lot more yet to come.

Our biggest non-musical influences is…

Maybe space. We find Space very fascinating and inspiring. It’s our home, and yet we know very little about it.

We’re most proud of…

This Release. It was about time we did something. James is also very proud of not having washed his jeans for 3 and half month (wearing them almost every day).

Our ideal support slot would be…

We like a number of artists would be unfair to mention one only. Beck, Radiohead, Tame Impala, Conan Mockasin, Boris Johnson?!! hahahah

Something we haven’t achieved yet which we’d like to is…

Everything, we haven’t achieved anything yet. Probably what we would like the most is to tour the world and play in front of thousands of people and share the DaDa Love!

The EU Referendum is…

Brexit? (lobbies vs other lobbies) These are superficial dilemmas that are used to distract us from the real problems.. War, famine, uneven distribution of wealth, nonsense economy. How illogical is it and how much should we take offense when we find tomatoes imported from China that are more expensive than the ones grown in France. It’s revolting and an embarrassment to our intelligence at the same time. This is the current evil in the world, by the hand of our own kind. We are nihilists on this planet and we have got so used to it that it has become environmental conditioning a common state of mind. We could go on for much longer…

Our favourite places to hang out are…

Home in Archway and Manor House. Our rehearsal space. Stoke Newington and Crouch End. Broadway road market.

We can’t stop listening to…

Lately we have been listening a lot of Talking Heads!! Such a great band!

We’re not ashamed to admit that…

Our drummer changed sex when he was 18.

Top Trump or Feeling The Bern?

Massive Joke. We have no likes for neither. They both belong to an old and dated vision of politics, and none of the two have answers. Trump has become a wordname to describe everything that is wrong in mankind. Ignorance made man. Manipulating fear and prejudice, the darkest and most negative sides of mankind, moving backwards instead of forwards. We are surprised and also concerned about where he has been able to get to.
