Hidden in the heart of the English countryside less than an hour from London, Standon Calling is this summer’s ultimate family camping festival for all ages to enjoy. And now, Hertfordshire can look forward to witnessing the one and only Rick Astley live at Standon Lordship this July, alongside the likes of We Are Scientists, The Big Moon, The Murder Capital, Scouting for Girls, Bear’s Den, Django Django and many more announced today.
The undeniable pop icon has hits that defined the sound of the 80’s, like ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ and ‘Together Forever’, and remains at the forefront of popular culture to this day. Always surprising fans with something unexpected and fun – be it backing up Dave Grohl on the drums or joining Blossoms as the front man during a set of The Smiths’ classics – Astley knows how to add a little magic into all his live appearances. His special show at Standon Calling this summer will not only be something to remember, but adds to the festival’s ongoing mission of bringing everyone together, forever! Sharing in the excitement of today’s news, Rick Astley said: “I can’t wait to head back to Hertfordshire for Standon Calling this July, hope to see you all there!”
In 2022, Standon Calling became the first and only major UK music festival to achieve the Keychange pledge with over 50% of the line up identifying as female or non-binary. This year, having already announced the most exciting, inclusive and diverse array of headline acts in the festival’s 17 year history, the festival goes even further to highlight this work, and in doing so cements its place as one of the UK’s firm favourites.
With Years & Years, Self Esteem, Bloc Party and The Human League sharing the stage with so many of today’s best acts, those just revealed include the finest in alternative, indie and pop. Today brings news of Scouting for Girls, Bear’s Den, The Big Moon, Django Django, We Are Scientists, The Murder Capital, The Sherlocks, Warmduscher and more. Everyone of them bursting with energising riffs and catchy hooks, the sounds of now will be ringing out over the sundrenched fields at Standon in 2023.
The freshest new acts are destined to make their mark on the summer, with Thomas Headon, Caity Baser, Ellie Dixon, 49th & Main, Shae Universe, Wasia Project, The Lottery Winners and more looking to give it their all in Hertfordshire. Whether it’s discovering new sonic boundaries with the experimental Mandy, Indiana, Scalping and Keg, or getting stuck into the party vibes with Joe Unknown, Deptford Northern Soul Club and Dick and Dom’s addictive DJ battles, there’s something here for everyone. Even hidden in the atmospheric woodland area lies the Groove Garden, and the unique and uplifting selections from Chris Mimo, Darius Syrossian, DJ Emma, London Disco Society, Pablo Contraband, Pete O’Callaghan, The Sunchasers, Tommy B and Young Pulse – all announced today.
Setting up for another fabulous four-day weekend of fun, Standon Calling is now a permanent fixture in the calendar for thousands of festival-loving families across the UK. With its world of immersive and magical moments popping up all over the weekend, it’s no wonder Standon fans keep coming back in growing numbers, with new generations welcomed into the festival family each year. From the famous Dog Show to Saturday’s themed Costume Parade, everyone has their own favourites. Whether it’s starting the day with some wild well-being, for those looking to limber up for the dance with a yoga class, and submerge in the swimming pool and riverside hot tubs, or taking in some quality Comedy and Talks over on The Lawn, or just diving into some games, crafts and creative workshops fit for all ages, you can always rely on an impressive array of mouth watering street food and drinks to keep everyone going. Found less than an hour away from London, Standon Calling offers the ultimate exploration of music and arts for all ages, hidden in the heart of the English countryside.
Standon is also one of the few big players in the UK festival scene committed to true diversity in genre, gender and ethnicity. In 2022 the Keychange pledge was successfully met for a 50:50 male/female & non-binary split across the programming, as the sun-baked show was heralded by many as the UK’s friendliest festival, scooping nominations for multiple heavyweight awards.
With more still to be announced, 2023’s line-up so far shows the festival’s ongoing commitment to delivering the most interesting and inspiring programme around, and is set to raise the bar once again! The headline acts are backed up with a wealth of pop stars like Anastacia, KT Tunstall and Melanie C and packed with the most exciting new names including Squid, Dylan, Confidence Man, Bob Vylan, Lynks, Sprints and Flowerovlove, alongside a healthy dose of and late night electronic DJs like Katy B, Faithless DJ, LF System, Groove Armada DJ, High Contrast and plenty of good-time party starters courtesy of Hospital, 24hr Garage Girls, The Cuban Brothers, Club De Fromage, Queer House Party and more.
