Ocean Sleeper, Gippsland’s rising stars of the Australian metalcore scene, have turned towards their pop sensibilities to fine-tune their sound. The result is their dynamic single, ‘Never The One’.
The 3-piece has fully leaned into a D.I.Y. approach that started with their last EP ‘Is It Better Feeling Nothing’, guitarist and vocalist Ionei Heckenberg produced and mixed the single at his Zanari Records studio, whilst also handling the shooting and editing of the music video with additional filming by tour videographer Jaydon Colvin.
To achieve their desired sound, the band worked with Jeff Dunne for mastering, ensuring the final touches met their expectations. ‘Never The One’ demonstrates Ocean Sleeper’s love for big rock and pop songs, without sacrificing their crushing heavy moments. The track also marks a first for the band, featuring Karl’s clean singing debut and highlighting Ionei’s development as a vocalist and producer.
The music video was filmed at Inferno, a local Gippsland nightclub in Traralgon, offering a unique and intimate setting. Ocean Sleeper has fond memories of playing a headlining show at the venue during their AMPM tour last year.
Delving into themes of toxic relationships, failure, and self-deprecation, ‘Never The One’ offers powerful lyrics that resonate with listeners: “Never the one for you to love, never the one you needed.”
Ocean Sleeper is set to embark on an Australian tour on May 26th, supporting Make Them Suffer and Fit For An Autopsy (USA). Excitement is bubbling as the band are set to play the biggest venues of their career to sold-out crowds, alongside their heroes in MTS and FFAA. These dates will also include an appearance on the Frankston leg of UNIFY’s Off The Record tour.
This release marks a significant moment for Ocean Sleeper as they explore new sonic territory. Don’t miss your chance to catch them on tour and visit the merch desk for a chance to meet the band!
