Carl Barat Confirms Libertines Break

Carl Barat has been talking to the NME about all things Libertines. The band sparked hopes of a full reunion last year after playing the Reading and Leeds festivals, however he has since poured sour milk on those rumours.

“Right now there is no Libertines future. We are all in very different places. Right now is not the time for The Libertines. I thought the water under the bridge was under the bridge, but maybe it's not. It's a very f***ing hard thing. Every time we talk it just brings it back up.”

Since the band – which also includes John Hassall and Gary Powell – split in 2004, Pete has formed another group, Babyshambles and released a solo album, while Carl found success with the his band Dirty Pretty Things before releasing a solo album last year.

He added: “I don't believe we're healed from the hurt. If our hearts heal up then we can break them all over again. But right now – it's hard.”

A documentary of the group, “There Are No Innocent Bystanders” was premiered last week. All members of The Libertines minus Pete Doherty attended the premiere.
