Boozers Beware! Alcohol Is More Dangerous Than Crack

It has been revealed today scientists believe alcohol is more dangerous than heroin or crack. The report is co-authored by Professor David Nutt, the former UK chief drugs adviser who was sacked by the government in October 2009. It ranks 20 drugs on 16 measures of harm to users and to wider society.

Each drug was scored for harms including mental and physical damage, addiction, crime and costs to the economy and communities. They concluded that heroin, crack and crystal meth, were the most harmful drugs to individuals, but alcohol, heroin and crack cocaine were the most harmful to society.

When the scores for both types of harm were added together, alcohol emerged as the most harmful drug, followed by heroin and crack. It also rated LSD and ecstasy as amongst the least harmful.

Prof Nutt told the BBC: “Overall, alcohol is the most harmful drug because it's so widely used.

“Crack cocaine is more addictive than alcohol but because alcohol is so widely used there are hundreds of thousands of people who crave alcohol every day, and those people will go to extraordinary lengths to get it.”

In my opinion, this is science gone mad. It’s giving kids a free reign to try any drug they feel like because most of them have already been drunk and if that’s the most harmful thing they can do then shooting up and taking a few e’s must be fine!

Anyway, on a lighter note we have some fantastic things on the site this week… We have competitions to win a limited edition Salford Lad’s Club t-shirt, a meet and greet with the awesome My Passion and tickets to see Madness. If that wasn’t enough, we have videos from JLS, Gwyneth Herbert and Weezer. Plus Rival Schools talk about their new album and we caught up with The Answering Machine for a chat. If that’s too much reading, Elliot Minor, Feed The Rhino and Haight-Ashbury are all on tour!

P.S. I told you I could do an entire editorial not about X Factor!
