Human Rights Activists Arrested At U2 Gig

Human rights activists were arrested before U2's concert in Moscow last night (August 25).

Members of Amnesty International were detained after handing out leaflets outside the concert, despite the organisation and the band's management believing they had the correct permits.

“Our activities were agreed with U2's management, so we are very much surprised,” Amnesty International director Ivan Blokov told BBC News.

During the concert, U2 were joined onstage by Russian rock star turned politian Yuri Shevchuk, who sang Bob Dylan's 'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' with the band.

Bono called the singer, who appeared at a banned concert in central Moscow on Sunday (August 22) to protest against plans to build a motorway through a forest, “a great man”.
