TOTP – The Public Have Spoken

MusicWeek readers have called for the BBC to bring back 'Top Of The Pops'. In an online poll 91% of respondents said the Beeb should bring back its weekly pop show.

The poll followed comments by a BBC executive to the effect that it was basically inevitable that the legendary pop show would return to our screens one day, in the same way both 'Doctor Who' and 'Top Gear' had been reborn and reinvented. After those comments the Beeb were keen to stress there were no current plans to bring back TOTP, though the Corporation had originally said there'd not even be a Christmas TOTP this year (the Christmas edition had continued even though the weekly show had been axed), but then backtracked and announced not only a Christmas special, but a New Years special too.
