The Knowsley Hall Music festival kicked off with a bang with performances from The Thrills, The Rascals, The View, The Black Velvets, The Coral and The Who.
Despite the rain only dampening spirits in brief yet heavy spells during the late evening, the music was sadly overlooked by the tragic events that occurred during The Who's set and proved disturbing for all bore witness.
The as yet unnamed man from Blackpool was taken seriously ill in the festival grounds and police and paramedics tried desperately to resuscitate the man whilst The Who played on in the rain. Many festival goers were shocked to witness the events that unfolded. Police tried to keep onlookers at a safe distance while paramedics rushed to the aid of the man who appeared unconscious. Festival goers had instantly recognized the danger the man was in and administered CPR when it became apparent he was not breathing.
The condition of the man remained unknown until this morning when he was pronounced dead at Whiston hospital. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
The Knowsley festival continues today with performances from Madness and The Zutons.
