It’s a Buffalo – Don’t Be Scared

Lets forget about the woeful name for the moment, have we reached a dearth in coming up with decent band names anymore? A bit like the godawful: Cage the Elephant.

However putting that to one side this is a right raggle taggle jolly boys outing of an album. With not a glum face in side it’s like the Coral hanging out with pop heroes Pete and The Pirates and spending far too much time looking on the brighter side of everyday. Basically it’s a 10 song whoop to whoop of paean.

Crashing in with ‘Marbles’ it’s a frenetic pop fest that leaves you pleasantly surprised by the esprit of this four piece. The musicianship here is pretty refined and brings abundance of skill and adroitly about it.

It’s a buffalo have a natural flow about their material and there is a real sense of togetherness and gang mentality about what they are doing here. It has a sniff of ‘us against the world’ and it’s one mission they are well and truly up for.

A lack of expletives would benefit this album as its the real downer when you are trying to lock yourself into the indie pop sector, its definitely catchy enough and swearing really does trip up it’s loveliness

The songs roll off with an ease and the catchiness of what they do pervades throughout. It’s hard to criticize such classics as ‘outline’ and ‘divorce’ but their parting gift of the gorgeous summery ‘run and hide’ makes it all more worth the while. These boys could be the missing link in your record collection for 2009 – A fine album full of vainglorious songs – simply superb!!
