Placebo and Goldfrapp are joining The Prodigy for the opening night on Friday 9th June and tickets are now on sale.
The Isle Of Wight Festival 2006 will be the fifth festival since it’s reincarnation in 2002. Over the last few years David Bowie, R.E.M, Faithless, The Who, Supergrass, Razorlight, Travis and The Magic Numbers amongst many others, have taken to the stage in what is fast becoming one of the hottest festivals in the UK.
Described as ‘The Best Rock Band for a Decade’, Placebo will co-headline the opening night of the festival with The Prodigy. The band are one of Britain’s biggest selling artists with nearly a decade of hits under their belts. 2004 saw the release of their multi-platinum album ‘Once More With Feeling’ a collection of singles spanning 1996-2004, to celebrate the launch they played their biggest UK show to date, a sold out Wembley Arena. They are currently in the studio writing a new album for release in 2006.
Goldfrapp are the much-loved British duo of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, famous for their avant-garde electro-pop sound and their visually astounding stage shows. Currently touring their critically acclaimed platinum album ‘Supernature’, Goldfrapp are set to bring a sprinkling of glitterball glamour to the Isle Of Wight Festival.
The Isle of Wight Festivals at the end of the 1960’s were a series of legendary events featuring Bob Dylan, The Who, Free, The Doors, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane culminating in 1970 with 600,000 hippies descending on the island to see Jimi Hendrix perform his penultimate concert. As documented in the film ‘Message to Love’ and celebrated in songs such as Oasis’ ‘F***ing in the Bushes’, the event has played a major part in shaping the music festivals we know today and was the European answer to Woodstock.
The festival will take place from Friday 9th June – Sunday 11th June at Seaclose Park, Newport.
