THE BAKER BROTHERS
Bournemouth based Funk outfit THE BAKER BROTHERS have been making a lot of noise of late (Literally!!!) with the release of their new long player TEN PACES on the ARSE records label. It's an album that takes in elements of Hammond funk, jazz and fusion flavas. It's been given the vote of Confidence by funk 45 bible Grand Slam Magazine who said in their summer 2003 issue:
“Seeing as there's only three of them -bass, drums and Dan Baker
doubling between organ and guitar they make a pretty big sound. So I am awarding them the indubitable honour of being the Motorhead of Funk.”
Their live performances feature the raw attitude of a punk gig and the energy associated with the heaviest funk bands, think DEFUNKT. You also get the chance to see Dan Baker playing guitar and keyboards simultaneously and Richard Baker combining live drums with samples, triggered off an electronic drum pad. Chris Pedley keeps the bass line locked and loaded. Overall, expect to be surprised and overwhelmed by their performance.
3HEDZ SOUNDSYSTEM
Expect only the most beautiful music from Nigel Prankster, Matz and Dom Servini. Think funk, boogie, hip hop, deep jazz. Dom co-runs the Wah Wah label which has been picking up many plaudits for its Rosie Brown & Alison Crockett releases
All three host internet radio shows that are listened to worldwide. Check for full details/biogs at link in the Soundsystem section.
