Infrasound 'FIRE IN THE CITY'

Infrasound release their debut single 'Fire In The City' on 10th May 2004 through Versity Music.

In the 80's, Leeds was once known as Gotham City, being defined as the birthplace of the Sisters of Mercy, The Mission and effete bedsit inhabitants Soft Cell. These bands did not, however, define the experience of the average working class youth, who couldn't give two fucks about existential despair, pointy boots and eyeliner. Although Leeds' gothic reputation still persists amongst the transient student population north of the city-centre, at the other side of town in the grassroots homelands of Beeston, an altogether more representative voice of the city has emerged in the shape of Infrasound.

Making their debut in the infamous Brudenell Social club – where natural socialist ideals are no match for the lure of cheap beer – the band came to the attention of a local promoter and venue owner. Supports with The Fall and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club quickly followed, along with a rapturously received slot at Leeds Carling Festival in the summer of 2003.

The annual In The City convention in Manchester proved successful too, with the band being chosen above 52 others to play the prestigious 'Best Of' at the Camden Barfly.

Things have moved quickly since last autumn. Such is the interest and belief in this band, generated by only one demo and a handful of gigs, recording time and video facilities have been offered free of charge to them. Their intense, thought-provoking songs, which draw from influences as diverse as Can, Joy Division and PIL clearly strike a chord with real music fans. It has been a long time since a British band as worthy of success as Infrasound has appeared.

Produced by Andy Gill (Gang Of Four), 'Fire In The City' is the first single to be taken from Infrasound's forthcoming debut album.

Infrasound are:

John Walker – vocals
