Bearing in mind that the headline above makes no sense, what I meant to say was ex Terrorvision member Leigh Marklew returns to Liverpool with new band Malibu Stacey on the 22nd July @ The Barfly, Liverpool. Support comes from the gloriously imp rock tune rakers Cadium, Wirral wobbly wanderers The Mags and new age rock sluts The Mirrors. Doors are at 8pm and its £5 adv. Tickets available from Radio City Box Office, 0151 256 5555, www.ticketline.co.uk and down below (no booking fee).
After a protracted absence from the circuit, a former member of Tequila drinking, festival favourites Terrorvision jumped back on the Rock n Roll Horse in 2003 with a brand new band, Malibu Stacey. Leigh Marklew, former bassist with the Bradford rockers, teamed up with ex-Leafeater guitarist and songwriter Kes Loy and local drummer extraordinaire Chris Bussey to create a band of freshness and joy and snot and volume. Completing the line up is ex-Kanvas, South Yorkshire singer, Jonny Wilson. Leigh, Kes and Chris worked in rehearsals as a 3 piece from October 2002 and, after auditioning loads of singers, the line up was finalised at the start of 2003 with the addition of Jonny…who came complete with the required amount of freshness and joy and snot and volume!
Starting with the songs Leigh had been writing since Terrorvision split up in October 2001, the rest of the band have pitched in to add their songs to the roster and now Malibu Stacey are spilling out onto the live circuit, with 65 gigs nationwide under their belt (including supports with Ten Benson, Henry Rollins and The Vaults).
In their first 2 months together the band recorded 2 promotional only cd’s. The first ‘Cuatro discos de Stomp’ was an ep featuring ‘Grade A Fellini’ which picked up a play on Clare Sturgess’ XFM show. Following that came another ep featuring a chunky take on the Kiss disco classic ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’.
Incessant gigging helped the band hone their stuff and they transferred a slice of this raw Rock n Roll Power into the studio during the long, hot summer of 2003 and recorded their debut album ‘ON HEAT’ in just 6 days. The album was available on their own D-Vine label from November 2003 at gigs. The quality of the tunes and the bands explosive live show led to interest and now a licensing deal with Townsend/Universal, with the album looking set for an official July 12th release into the shops. The band also recently made their first video for the explosive opening track of the album, INVASION. This was shot by the team behind Channel 4’s SHAMELESS series and features the band, sex, car wrecks and violence!!!
