Clinical Cathy on the road

Cathy Davey isn’t your typical singer songwriter. Bearing in mind its usual connotations, she finds the prospect of being placed in that category distinctly unsettling, and evidence of Davey’s somewhat unorthodox approach can be found throughout her debut album, ‘Something Ilk’. The songs featured get the counterpoint between nasty and nice just right, and showcase not only Davey’s talent for composing classic pop melodies but her propensity for barbed and bittersweet lyrics. The album is crammed with atmospheric and memorable songs carried by Davey’s remarkable voice. Highlights include ‘Go Make It’, a song which Davey wrote as an exercise in pop perfection and whose optimistic sentiment only adds to the song’s appeal, and the taut and vibrant debut single ‘Clean and Neat’, out now on maxiCD featuring the video, and 7″ vinyl.

“'Something Ilk' is due for release this summer and is already sounding like one of the year's best” – Sunday Times
