THE OTHERS single and tour

Stan Bowles'
New Single – 18th October 2004 (Poptones/ Vertigo)

“This song is about mavericks, and how some of the most talented and passionate people walk the line between genius and chaos. Stan Bowles was a maverick footballer for QPR in the 70's, with loads of skill and talent, and a passion for blowing his wages down his local. Despite playing for England, he was always in touch with his fans – I think there are obvious parallels with my band The Others, our community and my friend Pete Doherty, particularly as Stan is his favourite player. So I wanted to write a song about the good times we've had over the last couple of years, playing football in the park, going out partying and building our community.” Dominic Masters, The Others, August 2004.

The last few months have seen The Others rise as a genuine alternative to bland pop, as well as champions of the disenfranchised. Their new and direct take on how to go about things has won them many fans. Their impromptu guerilla gigs – on tube trains, at Radio 1, in parks and flats around London, and at Glastonbury – with fans notified by text message, word of mouth and through the band's website link – are already the stuff of rock'n'roll legend, immortalised in the pages of NME, The Guardian, The Observer, and The Sun.

What makes these events, and their more traditional shows so special is their inclusive nature: band and audience are equals. The participation of their self-styled fanclub, the infamous '853 Kamikaze Stage Diving Division', a bunch of devotees who follow The Others around with a passionate loyalty that is reciprocated by the band.
