Steranko Debut
South London four-piece Steranko release their debut EP single “The Decision”/”Geek Power” on October 18 as a limited edition, 7-inch vinyl and a CD EP featuring the bonus track “California”.
”The Decision” combines Steranko’s raw, punk approach to performing with Lee Mangan’s distinctive vocals and the band’s masterful, hook-laden songwriting. Lee Mangan, Steranko’s extraordinary, wiry, straggly-haired, anarchic singer, stands at the eye of the storm with his charismatic, engaging presence. He is accompanied by Guy Matthews (guitar) and backed by the rock-solid rhythm section of Lee Elvey (bass) and John Barrett (drums).
Steranko have already received adulation Stateside after a handful of breathless live performances at Rusty’s Surf Ranch, Santa Monica, The Whisky, LA and at the Cat Club and the Baked Potato in Hollywood. They are currently on their (unheard-of-nowadays) 60-date tour of the UK.
Steranko are famed for their live shows, where anything can happen. “Performance is about showing off,” says Mangan. “When we play a gig it’s about that moment and that time. And there are no rules. From the time you go on, there’s no rules. The second there’s rules there’s no point in doing it. F–k the consequences…”
The Decision EP is released October 18 2004, and will be launched at a very special party. The album “Culturephrenia”, produced by Thin Lizzy producer Nick Tauber, will follow in 2005.
