Carl Libertines Going Solo

Carl Barat of Libertines (wheel) fame has signed a major deal with Universal subsid Vertigo – finally putting the final nail into the coffin of any Libertines reforming rumours.

With the ever present Doherty remaining with his Babyshambles project and seemingly no way back to the Libertines fold, Barat announced the end of the band last year in Paris.

Carl's new deal, with Mercury Records offshoot Vertigo, will see the singer/songwriter release his first solo effort in late 2005.

“Carl is one of the greatest talents in modern music,” said Vertigo boss Greg Castell. “His contribution to The Libertines was fundamental to the band's success and we're delighted to have the opportunity of working closely with him”

Music mogul Alan McGee will remain Barat's manager.
