The biggest music festival in the North East of England is back this year and promises to be more impressive than ever before. From 19th – 30th May Newcastle and Gateshead will be rocking as this year’s festival follows the theme of tracing the evolution of popular music from Blues and Roots right through to dance.
With over 30 indoor gigs taking place over the festival period as well as a huge free outdoor event with 3 stages on Newcastle & Gateshead Quaysides’ – there is sure to be something to suit all tastes.
Not only that, but Jason Pierce of Spiritualised has joined the crew to host a selection of individual events to provide us with a snapshot of his personal musical Evolution. Jason will also be bringing his band Spiritualised to play a unique one off gig at The Sage Gateshead where they will be playing live for the first time a selection of songs from their new album.
On any one night you are able to see the likes of super group from Austin Texas The Resentments at Live Theatre, to Tsunami Bomb at Newcastle University. Or Errol Linton Blues Vibe at Live to Jason Pierce’s Spiritualised at The Sage Gateshead. From Disco Noir and Promise at Foundation to Rooster and The Others at Northumbria University the list is endless.
Bank Holiday Monday 30th May sees Orange Evolution 2005 reach its climax when the Quaysides of Newcastle & Gateshead will be transformed into a free music festival spread over three sites. It is expected that over 25,000 people will gather to see the highest quality bill on outdoor stages ever in the region.
The three main stages are the Innovation stage at Spillers Quay which will feature Dizzie Rascal, The Ordinary Boys, Super Furry Animals, Mylo and Dogs Die in Hot Cars to name but a few.
The Imagination Stage at Baltic Square will concentrate on new music and in particular bands from the North East. The FutureHeads, The Others, Carbon Silicone and Fightstar feature amongst the line up.
The Inspiration Stage is between the other two sites on Quayside East and will be geared towards a wide-ranging audience. Candi Staton, Misty in Roots, American Music Club and Martin Stephenson & The Daintees are just some of the delights in store – but there are many more not to be missed.
