The Killers’ meteoric rise continues apace in May with the release of yet another anthem from their triple-platinum debut LP Hot Fuss, the fans’ favourite Smile Like You Mean It.
The release of Smile Like You Mean It follows an incredible start to 2005 for Las Vegas’ favourite sons. With the album Hot Fuss having sailed past the million sales mark in the UK, and fast approaching 3 million worldwide sales, The Killers have enjoyed widespread acclaim from fans, critics and fellow musicians alike, picking up BRITs and Grammy nominations and seeing off competition from U2 and the Scissor Sisters to claim Best International Group at February’s NME Awards. February also saw The Killers playing 3 sell-out shows at Brixton Academy, at the climax of the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour and then with two performances in one day the following week.
Their quest for world domination will continue with tours of Europe, Japan and the USA this year before the band return to the studio to begin work on what is certain to be one of the most eagerly anticipated follow-up albums of next year. Until then fans will have the chance to see The Killers on these shores again at several high-profile festival appearances this summer.
Only one band currently counts Noel Gallagher, The Pet Shop Boys, Morrissey, Bono, Elton John, New Order and David Bowie amongst its fanbase. Smile Like You Mean It is guaranteed to attract ever-more keen followers to the 3 million worldwide.
