Dizzee Rascal will be performing at London’s Electric Ballroom on 24th May as part of the inaugural Bud Rising Festival.
UK rapper Dizzee Rascal, the most well known purveyor of grime, East London’s garage and hip hop hybrid, has come a long way from the high rise council estate he was brought up on in Bow. His 2003 debut album “Boy in da Corner” was described by the Telegraph as the “album that redefined the post-UK garage musical landscape” and led to his subsequent scooping of the Mercury Music Prize in the same year. Aged just 18 years old, Dizzee became the youngest ever winner of the illustrious award.
Still only 19, hits in America, extensive touring and a second album Showtime followed in 2004, this one compelling Uncut magazine to declare “With his arresting style of mutant grime-pop, Mills dazzles on every track”.
As well as the recent release of his latest single “Off 2 Work”, Dizzee Rascal has also started his own record label, Dirtee Stank. Joining him in the Bud Rising show will be two Dirtee Stank acts, Leicester hip-hop crew Klass A, who have already drawn comparisons with NWA and whose dubs are currently being played by DJ Semtex on his BBC 1Xtra show, and Dizzee’s latest signing, grime collective Newham Generals.
Tickets will cost £15. For more information please call 0870 143 2210 or visit link
