On June 13th 2005 Reuben release their brand new single A Kick In The Mouth through Xtra Mile Recordings. A track with a menacing bass line that rumbles under a grungy, Foo Fighters-esque guitar riff, and driving drum beats, all adding up to be the catchy, sing-a-long rock anthem of the summer.
‘A Kick In The Mouth’ is the first ‘proper’ single from their forthcoming second album ‘Very Fast Very Dangerous’ due out in August, following the download-only single ‘Blamethrower’ released in April. Produced by Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro) the album sees the band branch out in new directions. Unafraid of trying new things, Reuben share vocal duties with ex-earthtone9 frontman Karl Middleton (now of Blueprint) on ‘Alpha Signal Three’, slow things down a bit on the heart-felt odes ‘Nobody Loves You’, and ‘Boy’, and experiment with strings and flirt with drum‘n’bass on the stunningly inventive and wickedly titled ‘Every Time A Teenager Listens To Drum ‘N’ Bass, A Rock Star Dies’. This is not to say they’re not as brutal and raw as on last year’s debut ‘Racecar Is Racecar Backwards’- they’ve merely lifted their game, become harder, whilst remaining tender and at-times heart-wrenching, become smart enough to sometimes dumb down and play straight forward rock songs and have in the mean time, grown to be real contenders for the mainstream.
They will be showcasing their new material whilst on tour throughout the UK as well as at their headlining performance at Download Festival. Full dates are:
