Acclaimed author, DJ and journalist Dave Haslam will be making an appearance at Fopp Manchester (Brown St) from 2-4 pm this Sunday, the 3rd of July. He’ll be playing his choice of the most influential and inspiring records from the 70’s and signing copies of his new book ‘Not Abba – The Real Story of the 1970’s’.
In his new book he explores the real 70’s. Not Abba… is an antidote to those 'I Love the Seventies' versions of the 1970s; this isn't about Abba and the Bee Gees and platform shoes, it's about trade union strikes, racial strife, the Clash, Ziggy Stardust, reggae, Linda Lovelace in Deep Throat, Led Zeppelin, feminism, the Specials, gay liberation, IRA bombs, collapsing economies, and football hooliganism.
Dave’s previous works have seen him chronicle the history and buzz of dance music through the eyes and experiences of the DJ’s in ‘Adventures on the ‘Wheels of Steel: The Rise of the Superstar DJ’; and summarise and celebrate the history of Manchester, the worlds first industrial city, in ‘Manchester, England.’ His work as a DJ has seen him play at the Hacienda over 450 times, and he’s supported The Stone Roses and New Order amongst others.
Fopp In-stores have become something of an institution; in the past Fopp has played host to Franz Ferdinand, The Rapture and Tenacious D.
