Mercury Music Prize 2005

The shortlist of nominees for the Mercury Music Prize has been revealed. The Nationwide Mercury Prize provides a snapshot of the year in UK music. The 2005 shortlist will be chosen from an entry of around 170 albums released by British and Irish artists. Albums released between July 2004 and July 2005 are eligible for the Prize.

The list is as expected, featuring the obvious and the unknown. Who will take it seems a little less clear cut this year, it probably won't be Coldplay for being too famous, nor Kaiser Cheifs or Bloc Party due to Franz Ferdinand's indie rock winnings lat year………perhaps a suprise?
