It's official – Brighton rocks!

Brighton Live returns with more than 250 of Brighton's best gigging bands performing live – many for free. The festival kicks off on tomorrow, 3 October, running through until Sunday 9th.

And the line-up is nothing if not eclectic. There's rock, pop, country and even daily classical recitals at the Chapel Royal on North Street at 1-2pm daily.
The musical variety is matched by a wide range of venues – you can even catch performances by Brighton Institute of Modern Music students on the concourse at Brighton station.

Tomorrow night's treats include a free performance of folk-tinged Americana from Skint signings the Ralfe band at the Sussex Arts Club. And if you feel like splashing out, for £6 you can catch all-girl trio the Pipettes, who take their heavenly harmonies, crazed choreography and grrrl-power lyrics to the Komedia.

And to help give our musicians a bunk up onto the ladder to fame Brighton Music Network has organised a series of workshops for wannabe rock gods and godesses at the Joogleberry Playhouse in Manchester Street. Topics under discussion include copyright and selling your music internationally. Brave musicians can have their demos played and analysed in front of a live audience on Thursday. And Squeeze lyricist Chris Difford drops by on Friday 7th to share his thoughts on the art of songwriting.
