This has been a great year for the One Heart Choir who have starred in a new Channel 5 TV series, they performed at the Black History month event and have been asked to perform with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in November and now they will perform alongside some the music industries most renowned artists on Thursday. The youth choir has been developed by Underground Sounds, an MZONE project run by One Heart Productions. The project attracts young people between the ages of 12 and 18 from a range of different backgrounds by getting them involved and developing their skills in music, singing and performance.
They will take to the stage on 27th October at the Liverpool Academy alongside Liverpool’s The Stands, Roll Deep and Lupe Fiasco
Stephen Nze the Choir leader said “We’re absolutely thrilled to be asked to perform at such an important event and tribute. It is our vision for the choir to perform alongside such high calibre artists. We are sorry that it is under such tragic circumstances, but hopefully this event will prevent such tragedies in the future, and hope that we can play our part in battling racism and celebrating Anthony’s life.”
Musical direction to the choir is given by Tyndale Thomas who has supported, performed and recorded with nationally and internationally acclaimed artists including Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone and Rick Wakeman. Members also include Paisley Reid who appears on the children’s show ‘The Young Witches’, Paul Cowperthwaite who won ‘2004 Junior Stars In Your Eyes’ and Jetta Johnson who has performed backing vocals for Natasha Hamilton of Atomic Kitten fame.
Francisco Carrasco Programme Director for MZONE said “MZONE has been working with One Heart Productions since mid 2002. The partnership began as an idea developed by Stephen Nze and supported by MZONE. The project has developed into an outstanding success and has inspired hundreds of young people from Merseyside, who would otherwise not have had access to this level of music making. MZONE is particularly keen to support small music business emerging from the community that are committed to helping young people achieve.”
MZONE is an MDA (The Music Development Agency) Service. They are one of 24 Youth Music Action Zones in England and Wales, providing music-making activities to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity. For more information check out link
