Now in its fifth year, Breakspoll is the brainchild of Mike Hogan and Tim Harris – two breakbeat enthusiasts working from opposite ends of the country (Liverpool & Chichester) to bring together the global breaks community for the annual awards party, and to push the breakbeat gospel out to the masses.
Breakspoll.com link is the website behind the international breakbeat awards. After being ignored by the house-centric dance awards & the insularity of the drum & bass awards Breakspoll took it upon themselves to organise the first international awards event for the rapidly emerging international breakbeat scene. Since it's tongue-in cheek inception in 2001 the awards have grown from 500 votes to over 10000 votes at last years awards.
The popularity of the concept, is due to its origins as an internet driven voting system, enabling anyone to have their say and provide the opportunity for a few surprises in the results. This is shown by the participation of breakbeat fans worldwide from Asia, Australasia, Americas, Europe and Africa.
