Liverpool Now returns in 2006 attracting big name artists Roll-Deep, So Solid Crew and musical Icon Billy Bragg.
Running from Monday 17th of April to Friday 29th of April 2006 and partnered with MZONE the event will provide young people aged between 14 and 25 the chance to get involved in the thriving local and national music industry.
The events kick off with an all day Dry Bar gig in the Cavern Club on Monday 17th April, during Easter break. The event runs from 12-7pm and will feature the best local talent around. The rest of the week includes free workshops, seminars and mini-talks with some fantastic musicians and Music Industry professionals including speakers from Sony BMG, producers from Roll Deep and So Solid Crew and musical icon, Billy Bragg. These seminars will take place in the Rendall Building, University of Liverpool opposite Abercrombie Square.
This year's Liverpool Now also sees the launch of the new Picket venue on Jordan Street, in the Independence area of Liverpool. This new venue will play host to a Liverpool Now gig every night of the second week, with diverse music genres ranging from Urban, to Indie and Rock as well an Unsigned acts night sponsored by Liverpool Hope and Liverpool University.
The workshops from last year are back by popular demand to teach participants DJing skills, singing techniques and music technology. MZONE are hosting two seminars recruiting apprentice into music industry placements. The highly sought after guitar/bass drum and keyboard workshops will also be running again this year for those who want to get involved in music making. And, new to the programme for 2006, is Rock School and Urban School throughout the week for those who have always wanted to be in a band or rap with fellow MC’s.
Phil Hayes, Liverpool Now’s co-ordinator and brain-child of the event is excited to host such as successful event which has flourished and grown so much over the years. “Young people will not only have the opportunity to listen to top music industry personnel providing them with vital insights into the wonderful
world of music. They will also be given the chance to perform at the world famous Cavern and the resurrected Picket Venue. Liverpool Now is again nurturing the roots of Liverpool music enabling it to grow strong.”
