Talent Scouts Back In Liverpool!

Performing in front of thousands of people is many young musicians' dream. Now they have the chance to have that dream come true!

The Liverpool Culture Company is calling for the stars of the future to get involved in Streetwaves, a talent search in the seven neighbourhoods of the city. Each area will have one audition with a panel of expert judges deciding on who is the most ready to perform in front of crowds at Europe's largest free annual outdoor music festival and at the brand new Picket music venue.

Application forms are out now for young people to register for a chance to audition in front of the expert jury who will decide their fate. Visit
www.liverpool08.com/streetwaves or collect one from the 08 Place on
Whitechapel in Liverpool City Centre. Please note the short deadline in
order to give bands more time to practice before the auditions, once they have been notified (deadline 5 July 2006… so hurry!). Organisers, the Liverpool Culture Company with support from The Picket, Mzone and Youth Music, will give all bands advice and feedback to improve their performances.
Liverpool City Council leader, Cllr Warren Bradley, said: “As some
commentators say that the emphasis is moving away from music in schools, it's great to see that young people are as enthusiastic as ever. We may see some future stars coming out of this competition, so make sure you go along as an audience member if you're not competing, so in years to come you can say you were there!”

Alicia Smith, from the Liverpool Culture Company, has helped organise the quest for musicians. She said: “With so many talented musicians coming from Liverpool, it's tremendous we're on the lookout for the next generation of superstars. Last year's winners not only played the Mathew Street Music Festival, selected bands also performed in the House of Commons, at the Christmas Light switch on in front of thousands and at numerous other gigs for Culture Company events. The project will also give many young people a chance to perform for industry professionals and get great tips about the music industry. It is a great chance for young people who want to have a career in music.”
