Matthew Street Celebration

Wandering down Matthew Street and around the Pier Head area in Liverpool on a packed Bank Holiday weekend, supping fine ales whilst bumping into John Lennon everywhere, sounds like great fun. Listening to Japanese Beatles and greeting folk from all over the world also sounds cool. This lovely Bank Holiday weekend sees Liverpool overrun with Beatles. Yes it’s the largest free annual music event in Europe, it's Liverpool's Matthew Street Festival 2006.

A true extravaganza with 4 days of live music and over 75 bands performing on five stages across the city in celebration of the 2006 Capital of Culture year – Liverpool Performs. More than 40 indoor venues will also be hosting free live music throughout the weekend.

It all starts on Friday 25 August at 7.30pm with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra plus a host of famous name guests opening the festival for the first time

For us however it’s a great chance to come out and support the best local music on show with appearances from John Smith, Tramp Attack, 28 Costumes, Cuckolds, The Maybes, Lyons and Tigers, The Silhouettes, Alterkicks and The Aeroplanes. The freshest music from Liverpool in and amongst other 60’s celebrations. The dedicated new band stage will be at the Pier Head.

We are also treated to old favourites Shack and Ian Broudie’s Lightning Seeds will appear in Liverpool for the first time in the millennium giving out their greatest hits, headlining the festival on Sunday 27 August.
