It is with sad news that Wirral venue 'The Iron Door' is to close. On 23rd September, The Iron Door will be closed shut to make way for a gym and 12 luxury flats. The club has been key for promoting local bands and has been an essential focal point for bands from over the water to play.
Owner Janice King started the venue 6 years ago and the financial costs of running it has finally hit strain. Janice commented 'It's heart-breaking to see the end of the club. I'm sure the last night will be really tearful.'
The club's name came from the former Iron Door club, in Liverpool, which was a main part of the 1960s music scene.
The tragedy is that the venue was a much needed place for the unsigned to get experience of performing and a fantastic opportunity for bands to meet and have their own scene in the Wirral. The 'Foot In The Door' night gave unsigned acts a chance to get on the stage.
Local bands including The Loft, The Foundry, Tracer and Instant Agony have played at the venue. Ashville, local regulars to the venue will be playing on the last night.
Jackie King wont be stopped at the venue closing as she will still be working with bands in her new role as manager of Birkenhead's Hotel California venue.
She said: “I'll be taking some of the bands with me, so hopefully I'll still be able to work with new acts and help support some of the local talent''
