As nights the have drawn colder and the onslaught of festive nonsense and Argos adverts drive us to distraction, the party hungry goose has truly come home to roost. From its humble beginnings at the Lemon Lounge to now one of the benchmarks for pure quality in the UK, Chibuku is as ever proud to deliver another knock out line-up to the Nation venue.
Taking up their usual spot in the Main Room are our good friends Groove Armada hosting their sound system with Mc Mad and Bongo Jesus. Andy Cato and Tom Findlay have been hidden away since the Sonar party in the studio so they can get the finishing touches on their new album. This is a very exclusive DJ set. They simply are not playing anywhere else.
The Courtyard will see Chibuku present Turntable. An extravagant adventure on the wheels of steel taking you on a journey across many genres which kicks off at 12am on the button with the man who started it all – the legendary Grand Master Flash. A short 6 minute film will introduce why the courtyard needs to be upstanding for the man who started a whole revolution. Next up it’s the immigration bothering Philipino more commonly known as Qbert. By far the most advanced scratch DJ on the planet we will take you from the past to the future with just one move. Next to the stage is Chibuku stalwart and non-stop party rouser Krafty Kuts. From his first appearance for us back at the 3rd birthday he has not only delivered a show stopping album for us but countless sterling performances. Cut up party hip hop to break beat chaos will warm the room up for the next stage of the Turntable show is resident DJ Loz who will be performing an exclusive Ableton set so expect to hear everything from Public Enemy to Pendulum remixed on the fly via 80s classics and chemical beats. The final instalment of the TURNTABLE adventure will be former CHIBUKU resident and probably the world’s biggest global drum and bass player DJ Marky. If you’re not already familiar with his work, it’s safe to say as a DJ he is up there with the likes of Laurent Garnier & Francois Kevorkian. Not only a performer with whom crowd interaction has been taken to a new level, he is capable of delivering some of the most blissfully deep drum and bass on the planet.
As if this isn’t enough the Annexe will take on the job of balancing the party anthems in the main room with sublime grooves from two of Liverpool’s favourite guests. Hippe and Halo, formerly known as H foundation, rarely play together and Liverpool is one place oddly they keep coming back to. From Bugged Out! to Circus and now Chibuku we welcome them to set the stage for an exclusive 4 hr set from a legend and now a firm Chibuku favourite Francois Kevorkian. From mixing down Depeche Mode to playing some of the most diverse music on the planet, 4hrs with FK finishes off what we believe is a near masterpiece. The last big party till March 2007.
