Amy Winehouse’s US debut album “Back To Black” has taken the US by storm by entering the Billboard Hot 100 album chart at no. 7, making Amy the highest debuting British female artist in the history of the US albums chart.
This incredible achievement is all the more remarkable when you consider Amy only played her first US shows in a tiny pub in New York in January of this year. Her appearance on the David Letterman show in New York last week and two completely locked-out New York and LA shows, have helped establish Amy as the hottest new artist in the US.
The phenomenal success in the US mirrors the excitement surrounding Amy in the UK, where “Back To Black” is fast approaching triple-platinum status. At last month’s Brit Awards, where she was crowned Best British Female, Amy stole the show with an electrifying performance of her smash hit “Rehab”.
Amy is currently on tour in the US and will be back performing in the UK throughout the summer.
Amy had this to say after being woken at 8am in a Los Angeles hotel room by her manager with the good news:
“you're kidding….bloody hell. I'm really proud of this record ….the highest what… really…..that's unbelievable….”
