Promoters of Indian Summer have announced the addition of Grammy award winning alt-rockers Wilco, Texan lo-fi hipsters Midlake, as well as Explosions in the Sky and Norwegian quartet 120 Days to their festivals ever growing bill.
They join the more established, if similarly edgy talents of The Flaming Lips, The Rapture, and New York rockers ClapYour Hands Say Yeah in what is likely to be the highlight of the musical calendar for art school types countrywide.
This year’s Indian Summer event should again inject a certain freshness into a festival schedule as crowded (and some would say as noxious) as a Glastonbury toilet queue.
On the 14th and 15th of July, the event returns to the lush, idyllic lawns of Glasgow’s verdant Victoria Park, the perfect venue for the undeniably uber-cool line-up, which offers a fashionably high-brow (and comparatively low budget) alternative to T-in-the-Park’s soulless Perthshire chill.
Indian Summer is again to be staged in association with BBC Radio Scotland and BBC 6 Music, whose Head of Programmes Ric Blaxill said: “Last Year’s Indian Summer was one of the highlights of our summer of live music, and this year’s event promises to be even better.”
Festival organisers PCL have a long and illustrious history of elevating new acts into the stratosphere of the public consciousness, having been pioneers in promoting such acts as Nirvana, The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand. Their ethos of supporting the best in independent, alternative talent ensured that last year’s Indian Summer was a resounding success, with acts like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Optimo (Espacio) and Antony and the Johnsons setting the bar.
Tickets are priced at £65 for the weekend, and are available now from link, Tickets Scotland, Ripping or by calling 08700 600 100.
