Mint Royale – Pop Is

Neil Klaxon and Chris Baker are Mint Royale – electronic music maestros from Manchester.

And although you may think you’ve never heard of them before, their songs will have perforated your ear drums at some point over the past decade. With a successful remix of Terrorvision’s Tequila under their belts, not to mention their rather annoying version of Singing in the Rain (which had more appeal when it featured on a car advert back in 2005), Mint Royale’s music has also featured on movie soundtracks such as Vanilla Sky and Serendipity, as well as TV shows like Alias.

This album takes a journey through all their classics, from the shimmery bottled-sunshine sounds of Don’t Falter, complete with Lauren Laverne’s soft vocals, to the chilled rap fusion of Something New as well as the track, From Rusholme With Love with its Bollywood silhouette, this is a bright and breezy collection, perfect for summer chilling.

and despite this review being hoplessly out of date this record is going to be one of the soundtracks to big chills, summer bbqs and festival atmospheres for the rest of 2007 – Ed.
